Solution
No. Since the SnapGear does not have an ATM interface, we don’t support PPPoA (PPP over ATM) authentication directly.
If your ISP only supports PPPoA and you are trying to login with the SnapGear using PPPoE, you will see errors similar to this in the SnapGear system logs:
pppd[44]: Already in data stream, sending PADT Ether addr: ee:f4:02:00:ff:ff PPPoE hdr: ver=0x8 type=0x0 code=0x00 sid=0x0000 length=0x0800
(Unknown)
pppd[44]: Failed to negotiate PPPoE connection: 4 - Interrupted system call
If your ISP only supports PPPoA, you will need to configure your DSL modem in router mode and get the modem to authenticate with the DSL provider. Then, set the SnapGear’s internet connection for 'Direct Connection' and configure it to be on the same subnet as the Modem local IP address. Use this modem's local IP address as a default gateway. Next, configure the modem to forward all ports and protocols to the SnapGear’s WAN IP address and you can then configure the SnapGear normally for port forwarding, VPNs, etc. However, you must ensure your IPSec VPNs specify the local and remote IDs, ensuring they have an @ symbol in the ID.
