Ensures Continuous Application Performance

AUSTIN, TX, February 22, 2011 – Ensuring sufficient server resources are continuously available to support dynamic, virtualized environments can be time consuming and error prone if done manually. That’s why ManageEngine, makers of a globally renowned suite of cost effective network, systems, applications and security management software solutions, today announced automated provisioning of virtual resources is now possible with ManageEngine Applications Manager, the company’s widely deployed server and application performance monitoring software.

The new enhancements to Applications Manager’s virtualization monitoring capabilities enable IT administrators to automate the provisioning of virtual resources, automatically making adjustments when threshold levels are breached. For example, Applications Manager will automatically add, start or stop virtual machines in a VMware ESX/ESXi server farm when the number of active sessions in a server exceed the specified threshold. With this automation capability, the IT team may significantly improve operational efficiency by reducing manual intervention, as well as optimize resource utilization by reusing inactive virtual resources. Additionally, business–critical applications and services running in a virtualized environment are assured of sufficient resources.

When combined with out–of–the–box support for application servers, web services, middleware and databases spanning physical and virtual infrastructures, the automatic resource provisioning capability becomes even more powerful.

"Applications Manager is a highly–effective solution for ensuring the software our organization runs on remains available and performing as needed," said John Stoffer, Executive Director of IT, Wall Street Institute. "Being able to automate much of the performance monitoring, and when necessary, server intervention, is very valuable. Not only does it help ensure our business systems are performing as expected, but it allows me to spend my time on other important efforts."

"Since physical and virtual entities co-exist in most IT environments, any performance slowdown in an application can affect the performance of related virtual services," said Gibu Mathew, program manager, Applications Performance Management solutions at ManageEngine. "By automating provisioning of virtual resources based on the performance of underlying physical entities, IT departments can ensure their business–critical services are not affected by failures of the physical components. They can also utilize their virtual resources more effectively and slash operational costs. The out–of–the–box support for over 50 applications and servers make it easy for data center managers to be in control of their virtual infrastructure."

The new capability announced today is the latest in a growing list of ManageEngine features designed to ensure virtual IT environments deliver the availability and performance that is expected. Just last month, ManageEngine announced that Applications Manager had been enhanced to offer multi–vendor virtualization management support. The company plans to continue expanding its virtualization management capabilities.
